Teens at the Margin: Artificially Intelligent Technology for Promoting Adolescent Online Safety
SSRN Electronic Journal
2021
Abstract
We aim to develop future Artificial Intelligent (AI) systems for online safety of adolescents as marginalized group that consider the privacy needs of adolescents and support their interactions with others online. To do this, adolescent online safety researchers and practitioners must shift towards solutions that are more teen-centric by designing privacy-preserving solutions that provide accurate and customized services to teens and their parents. In this paper, we discuss ethical, privacy, and system use challenges related to improving AI/ML adolescent online safety solutions. Our goal is to exchange our experiences and challenges designing and developing AI technologies for at-risk youth and to contribute on developing potential tools to support designing AI/ML systems for/with marginalized people
