The inaugural ROADMAP Summit, convened by the National Science Foundation in partnership with the Economic Development Administration on December 4, 2024 in Washington, D.C., explored how emerging military and civilian production geographies are reshaping the U.S. economic map. Highlighting metropolitan, inter-metropolitan, and intra-regional manufacturing dynamics, the summit underscored place-based strategies for federal infrastructure, innovation district planning (such as partnerships with international hubs), and small business capital access via SSBCI 2.0. Led by Bruce Katz, Executive Director of the Nowak Metro Finance Lab, the discussions emphasized unlocking federal procurement as a catalyst for equitable regional growth. The summit concluded with a call for metropolitan regions to develop agile industrial governance frameworks, enabling them to coordinate ecosystems more effectively and capitalize on the spatial evolution of the new industrial economy.
