About

I am a social and environmental epidemiologist. My research focuses on social and environmental determinants of chronic health conditions. My on-going work examines risk factors within residential environments that influence health behaviors related to obesity and health outcomes such as type 2 diabetes. My recent work has been focused on studying policies that affect restaurant environments and diet, smoking behavior, new pedestrian / bicycle infrastructure, and physical activity outcomes. In addition, I have studied air pollution epidemiology and policies/infrastructure that promote or deter automobile use. In my work, I use spatial / GIS and advanced epidemiologic methods as well as simulation tools from complex systems modeling.
