About
Joyce Pittman joined Drexel in 2010 as a clinical professor of educational leadership, curriculum and instructional design and a consultant to educational reform efforts in the United States and overseas. Dr. Pittman’s 35-year career in education has ranged from high school business teacher to franchise consultant for the Sylvan Learning Systems to roles in teacher educator development, digital education and leadership issues in the United States and abroad. She has directed her global education reform and research efforts, which are as diverse as leading research teams for computerizing the Praxis teachers’ test at Educational Testing Service to writing ISTE technology standards to guide teacher education programs, to preparing veteran educators to incorporate ubiquitous technologies in online environments. Currently, she holds a state-level position with the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA) as Chair, Research and Development Committee where I get to interact with school leaders, teachers, administrators and policymakers.
Joyce has extensive experience advising educational authorities domestically and overseas on leveraging digital technology to help educators and learners perform beyond their perceived abilities and limits. In 2006, she directed research teams in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), held high-level positions in higher education and co-produced a plan to redesign schools and retrain teachers. She has published widely in books and journals including: “Critical Success Factors in Moving Towards Digital Equity,” “International Handbook of Information Technology in Primary and Secondary Education,” “Preserving Human Foundations of Education in Technology Environments,” and “Connecting Students to Advanced Courses Online,” U.S. Department of Education. Currently my research interest is focused creating equitable learning opportunities for immigrants and minority students in secondary, post-secondary and in the community by improving teacher training and professional development.
In her personal time, “Dr. Joyce” enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading poetry, dancing and traveling.
