Norman Stein is a nationally recognized authority on pension law, employee benefits and tax law. In addition to producing a rich body of scholarship, he is actively involved in policy development and testifies frequently before Congress.
Norman Stein is a nationally recognized authority on pension law, employee benefits and tax law. In addition to producing a rich body of scholarship, he is actively involved in policy development and testifies frequently before Congress. Before joining the faculty, he was the Douglas Arant Professor of Law at the University of Alabama. He has visited at the University of Texas, Indiana University – Bloomington, and the University of California at Davis. He served as counsel to the American Association of Retired Persons and as a consultant to the General Accounting Office and testified before the U.S. Congress on pension issues. He is a former chair of the Employee Benefit Section of the Association of American Law Schools.
Stein's scholarship focuses chiefly on employee benefits law, federal taxation and social insurance. His articles have appeared in North Carolina Law Review,The Tax Law Review, Washington and Lee Law Review and Law and Contemporary Problems, among others. He was also the co-author of the treatise, “Qualified Deferred Compensation Plans,” and a contributor to the WestLaw textbook “Family Wealth Management.”
