Dr. Ayazi is a board-certified surgeon with advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive foregut surgery and advanced endoscopy. He serves as a Foregut surgeon and the Director of the Chevalier Jackson Esophageal Research Center and the Esophageal Physiology Center at the Allegheny Health Network Esophageal Institute. He also holds a faculty position at Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center (Rochester, NY), followed by a clinical fellowship in minimally invasive foregut surgery and advanced endoscopy in Pittsburgh, PA. He also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in Thoracic and Foregut Surgery at the University of Southern California under the mentorship of Dr. Tom DeMeester, as well as a research fellowship at University College London (London, UK).

A nationally recognized expert in esophageal motility disorders and the surgical management of reflux and motility conditions, Dr. Ayazi is frequently invited to speak at leading national and international conferences. His research focuses on the physiology and pathophysiology of esophageal diseases and their surgical treatment. His work has resulted in over 98 peer-reviewed publications and more than 150 presentations at major surgical meetings worldwide.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Foregut Society. He holds leadership positions within several of these organizations and serves as Associate Editor of Foregut, the official journal of the American Foregut Society.
