Shelley Hickey, MSN, RN, received her diploma in nursing from Reading Hospital School of Nursing, a BSN from Widener University and her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Villanova University. While obtaining her MSN, she was the recipient of the Dean’s award for service to the college.
Hickey’s clinical background is in critical care, cardiothoracic surgery and perianesthesia nursing in both academic and community hospital settings. She has over 10 years of experience as a nurse educator in the community college and acute care hospital settings. She also has another 12 years of teaching experience in the university setting. Before coming to Drexel, Hickey served as the coordinator for international nursing experiences that occurred in10 countries. She has led or co-led nursing student experiences focused on health promotion in El Salvador, Peru, South Africa and the Dominican Republic.
Her research focus has been on medication safety, people living with Parkinson’s disease and interdisciplinary simulation. She was able to showcase this research at the World Parkinson Congress in Kyoto, Japan in 2019. Hickey has also presented on strategies for NCLEX success (2018) and creative teaching strategies (2018).
