Uk Jung is an architect and educator whose research work is dedicated towards providing opportunities to existing community members in gentrifying neighborhoods, focusing on the Mantua community in Philadelphia. The work is based on the premise that all neighborhoods and communities are unique, and so the work requires long term involvement, integration with the community, and iterative processes that can be refined over time. His interests are in providing affordable housing, education and career opportunities, and to mitigate displacement in rapidly changing neighborhoods. The work focuses on expanding the role and visibility of the community members through storytelling, visualization, and participatory design processes.
