About

Overview: Dr. Victor Bray is Professor of Audiology at Drexel University and former Dean of the Osborne College of Audiology. Over more than four decades, his career has spanned clinical practice, biomedical research, medical-device innovation, higher education, and national professional leadership. Working at the intersection of science, education, technology, healthcare policy, and organizational leadership, Dr. Bray has helped shape both the audiology profession and the broader hearing healthcare system.

Early and Mid-Career: Unlike academic leaders whose careers have remained within universities, Dr. Bray’s career bridges clinical practice, industry, and higher education. Early in his career, he provided clinical care and managed care teams for more than a decade in otology and otolaryngology clinics. He later held progressively senior leadership roles at ReSound Corporation, Sonic Innovations, and OtoKinetics, culminating in multiple appointments as Vice President and Chief Audiology Officer. In those roles, he led teams in auditory research, clinical research, product development, quality control, and international regulatory affairs.

Late-career: During his tenure at the newly formed Salus University, Dr. Bray served as Dean of the nation’s first College of Audiology. There, he grew the College into the largest Doctor of Audiology program in the United States while expanding access to graduate education through internationally recognized online programs. Under his leadership, the College developed a second-generation AuD Bridge Program serving audiologists around the world and introduced Advanced Studies Certificate Programs in cochlear implants, tinnitus and hyperacusis, and vestibular sciences and disorders.

Scholarship: Dr. Bray has authored or coauthored more than 250 publications and presentations nationally and internationally. While in industry, his work helped validate and bring to market multiple generations of advanced digital signal processing hearing aids, including technologies that supported groundbreaking performance claims for speech understanding in noise. His scholarship initiatives in academia include professional education, chronic diseases associated with hearing loss, workforce sustainability, healthcare economics, and public policy.

His current projects include serving as guest co-editor of the 2026 Seminars in Hearing special issue on Workforce Sustainability in Audiology and co-authoring five manuscripts for that issue (in press); co-authoring "Beyond the Code: 20 Questions on Ethical Reasoning in Audiology" for AudiologyOnline Journal (in press); and anchoring the Academy of Doctors of Audiology 2026 AuDacity pre-convention workshop on "Hearing Loss as an Early Warning Sign of Whole-Body Illness: Metabolic Syndrome and Management of the Cochlea" (October).

Recognition: A past president of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology and a Distinguished Fellow in Public Policy of the National Academies of Practice, Dr. Bray has advanced audiology through a career defined by leadership, scholarship, advocacy, and innovation. His honors include several of the profession’s highest distinctions: the Academy of Doctors of Audiology David Goldstein Outstanding Audiologist Award and Joel Wernick Award for Educational Excellence; the Hearing Industries Association Volunteerism Award; the University of Texas College of Communication Outstanding Alumnus Award; and, most recently, the Salus University Presidential Medal of Honor.

Summary: Few audiologists have contributed so broadly across clinical practice, industry, academia, public policy, and professional organizations. Dr. Bray’s work continues to influence the education of future audiologists, the evolution of hearing healthcare, and the strategic direction of the profession. Through a career defined by innovation, collaboration, and service, he has helped shape modern audiology while continuing to inspire its future.
