Abstract

Cognitive Behavior Therapy Human Information Dissemination Professional Supervision Psychology: Professional & Research
Having summarized the historical context for developments in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) supervision, this chapter introduces a procedural account of CBT supervision. It addresses gaps in the design, development, and dissemination of CBT supervision by providing an account of evidence-based methods and procedures for CBT supervision with sufficient support to constitute best practices. Because clinical research on CBT supervision is so limited, the chapter includes research from clinical, industrial-organizational, and educational literatures. It summarizes "gold standards" for training supervisors and methods of evaluating competence in supervision that can be utilized to provide the impetus to better design, develop, and disseminate CBT supervision. Finally, the chapter addresses problems with broader dissemination and uptake of these concepts. It describes general principles and major considerations in the design of effective CBT supervision based upon the review of the empirically supported elements of CBT supervision.
