Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the evidence for the use of psychological treatments in conjunction with medication to improve the outcome of bipolar disorder. It specifically discusses the use of CBT and adapting the model to bipolar patient care. Suicide, manic episodes, rapid-cycling bipolar disorder, and medication adherence are a particular focus, with ample clinical examples and discussion of strategies to use if two providers are caring for the patient.
