Abstract
“The Place that Loves You Back” is one of the official slogans of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC). Developed as part of the GPTMC’s first advertising campaign in 1997, the slogan was part of an effort to brand the metropolitan region, and especially the city, as “a genteel, relaxing place that appeals to people of all ages.” There is no doubting the success of the campaign, which in its first year generated over a million new tourist trips to the region.
