Abstract
This paper reviews the current realities of academic integrity at Drexel University, emphasizing the struggle with shifting the culture from solely dispensing punitive measures to encouraging heightened awareness and prevention of academic dishonesty. The authors, all Online Learning Council Fellows, share techniques collected through decades of collective input that stress education and information rather than failures and suspensions. They frame the discussion with a review of why students commit academic dishonesty, a discussion of reporting practices at Drexel University, followed by arguments for sustainable institutional change through policy, pedagogical professional development and sound instructional design. The paper concludes with informational resources and takeaways for those struggling with this issue.
