Abstract
Drexel University has engaged in an ongoing process to change the university culture regarding online teaching and learning from isolated pockets of excellence to a culture of collaboration and open communication across the university. The Provost established an Online Learning Council (OLC) with representatives from across all academic units to explore best practices within the university and nationally. The OLC's charge is to develop, demonstrate and share strategies that increase the quality of design, delivery and outcomes of online, hybrid, and enhanced face-to-face classes at Drexel University. The OLC gathered information on components of quality online education and established committees focused on each area. To enhance this initiative, the Provost named eight individuals from across the University to act as ambassadors and champions of OLC disseminating the work of the Council to the Drexel-wide community and to serve as catalysts for continuous quality improvement. During the inaugural year the OLC Fellows completed several projects: 1) A Course Design Peer Review Program; 2) A Self-Paced Orientation to Online Teaching; 3) Campus-wide Faculty Development Days; and 4) An online repository of guidelines, tips and checklists for faculty.
