Abstract
The Gintsvetmet is investigating the development of processes for cleaning Cu--Zn and converter Cu--Ni slags by low-temperature plasma. The use of plasma generators as a source of power has the following advantages in reduction processes: (1) An external power source producing the reducing gases eliminates the need for complete oxidation of a considerable part of hydrocarbon raw materials, and produces gases with a high content of reductants. (2) Heat and mass transfer rates are greatly increased. 3 ref.--AA
