Premenstrual syndrome: A review of possible dietary influences
Journal of the Canadian Dietetic Association, Vol.44(3), pp.194-196
1983
Abstract
Studies relevant to an evaluation of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) interrelationships with nutrition are reviewed and summarized. Possible nutritional factors that may influence PMS symptoms (e.g., fluid retention, headache, anxiety and/or depression, occurring regularly prior to menses) are considered individually; these factors include: sodium balance, pyridoxine status, glucose tolerance, magnesium status, and caffeine, fat, and vitamin A intake. Definitive research studies on the effectiveness and the risk/benefit ratios of proposed nutritional therapies for treating PMS are needed. (wz)
