Abstract

The unification of the Western European nations into the EEC and the NAFTA agreement between the U.S., Canada and Mexico has initiated a significant increase in global competition. Two important factors that affect the competitiveness of firms are price and quality, which therefore have become key parameters for today's product managers. Traditionally, firms have concentrated on competing on price. However, the impact of global competition has led them to shift their emphasis to the quality side of the quality/price equation. This is because the new global markets are driven by quality instead of by price.
