The stoichiometry of LaAl[O.sub.3] films grown on SrTi[O.sub.3] by pulsed laser deposition was investigated. The results revealed that when the LaAl[O.sub.3] film was La-rich, the the nominal unit-cell volume expanded, however, when it was La-poor or stoichiometric it remained near the bulk value.
