Gregory Walter Hislop

Gregory Hislop is a professor in the Information Science Department of the College of Computing and Informatics. He has also served repeatedly as an Associate Dean at Drexel, most recently as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in CCI. His scholarly interests span computing education research, software engineering, and technology in education. His current research focuses on the educational value of student participation in humanitarian free and open source software (HFOSS) projects. Dr. Hislop is a strong advocate for the educational and societal benefits of the free and open source movement. He facilitates the coordinating committee of Teaching Open Source, a member project of the Software Freedom Conservancy. His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, Red Hat, Google, and the Mellon and Sloan Foundations. Dr. Hislop teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, primarily in areas of software engineering. He has also been involved in development of national curriculum models in multiple areas of computing. Prior to coming to Drexel, Dr. Hislop worked in government and industry. His efforts encompassed technology planning and evaluation, software development and support, and development and management of technical education and services.
