Maríadelaluz Matus-Mendoza’s research revolves around migration and its interconnection with linguistic and sociocultural issues. Professor Matus-Mendoza specializes in Mexican Spanish and has published in several journals, including Language Variation and Change and Southwest Journal of Sociolinguistics. More recently, her research interests encompass the relationship between language, migration, and foodways to shape identity; this combines her two passions and commitments with academia and community.
Dr. Matus-Mendoza spearheaded the development of transnational tele-collaboration to enhance intercultural and linguistic communication. Additionally, she has contributed to the development of Global Citizenship education in a foreign language and advanced content classes since 2015. She has been named the most valuable board member of the Mexican Cultural Center, a nonprofit organization that disseminates and promotes Mexican history, culture, and heritage across the Delaware Valley. Matus-Mendoza works to increase collaborations between the community, schools, and the Center.
