About

Mariana Lazo, MD, PhD, ScM, is a Research Professor at the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health, with appointments in the Department of Community Health and Prevention and the Urban Health Collaborative (UHC). She co-leads the Community Engagement Core of the UHC.

Dr. Lazo’s research focuses on two main areas: (1) understanding the role of social, economic, and environmental factors in chronic diseases and their disparities, and (2) developing and implementing multi-level interventions to address Latino and immigrant health issues. She co-leads community- and policy- engagement initiatives in Philadelphia, primarily focused on improving the health and well-being of the Latino community, and climate-related efforts.

Her work spans both the U.S. and Latin America. Dr. Lazo earned her MD in Mexico City (La Salle University) and her ScM and PhD in Epidemiology from The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
