Mat Kelly’s research areas include digital preservation, personal web archiving and information visualization. Previous to Drexel, Kelly served as a graduate research assistant and an instructor of web programming at Old Dominion University, and also served as a mobile applications developer for NASA Langley Research Center. Throughout his academic career he has created and publicly released open source software. He is a former Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute Scholar (2016) and NASA Virginia Space Grant Consortium fellow (2014). He has been recognized for excellence in research as the recipient of multiple best poster and paper awards from ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries. He earned a PhD and MS in Computer Science from Old Dominion University, and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Florida
