About

Seojin Kim is an Assistant Professor of Management (Strategy Group) at the LeBow College of Business. She received her Ph.D. in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Dr. Kim investigates the creation of new firms and industries, focusing on how the heterogeneous prior experience of individuals and firms shapes their strategic decisions under uncertainty. She also considers how technological and regulatory environments affect firms’ innovation and entry decisions. To examine these questions, she utilizes quantitative and historical data from the healthcare sector, such as diagnostic medical imaging equipment, prosthetic limb devices, and in vitro diagnostic tests.

Dr. Kim’s research has been published in top management journals, including Strategic Management Journal and Strategy Science. Also, her doctoral dissertation has been selected as a finalist for the 2022 Industry Studies Association Dissertation Award and a finalist for the 2020 INFORMS/Organization Science Best Dissertation Proposal Competition. She has won multiple prestigious grants, including the Kauffman Knowledge Challenge Grant and the Strategy Research Foundation (SRF) Dissertation Grant.
